Lovely man, who will be sorely missed by many. Gave many years making the station what it is today.
Our new feature at the station, we hope you like it.
The planter has been installed by Ross Wilson (pictured) of NZ Landscapes, Bollington.
Simon Brookes, our station manager, chaired a meeting of twelve Station Friends Groups on 31st August in the Waiting Room on the Buxton platform. This was an opportunity for group representatives to share information about any projects and events that have taken place recently at their station. This generated much discussion about avenues for funding, ways of acquiring help in completing projects and who to contact. Thanks to Alison for ‘flying the flag for Whaley' and for providing refreshments.
A very successful fund raising coffee morning was held in August in the Mechanics Institute. The star prize in the raffle was won by a local hairdresser. Many thanks to Northern Railway for providing this - a Family Weekend Ticket.
I am extremely pleased to see that John Pritchard's book, "A Railway Journey - From Oxford to Whaley Bridge, " has been shortlisted for the 2017 ACORP 'Small Projects' awards.
Congratulations to John for all his hard work. As well as a celebration of John's life it covers the formation and growth of FoWBS. The new edition will be available for purchase soon. Watch this space.
Eleven members of Whaley Bridge WI visited the station last evening. I gave a talk on the history of the station and FoWBS and we had a look around the garden (and plugged our maintenance sessions!!) refreshments followed and they left at 9.30 saying, "one of the best meetings we have had".
