ABOUT US

FoWBS was launched in 2006 by a group of volunteers who want to make the most of Whaley Bridge Station and its heritage.

The group was initially formed to renovate the historic and original 1857 station building on the Buxton platform.

It is frequently heralded as the best kept station on the line and is in fact the banner photo on the Northern Railway stations page.

STATION HISTORY

Opened on 9 June 1857, the station was originally on the Stockport, Disley and Whaley Bridge Railway.

This was built by the London and North Western Railway to connect Stockport with the Cromford and High Peak Railway and was extended to Buxton in 1863.
